Soul-Making and the Sky Within: James Hillman and the Archetypal Psyche
29th October 2023 – 15.30-18.00 GMT

James Hillman’s writings provide an invaluable foundation for understanding the bridge between psychology and astrology. His theoretical frame and mythopoetic perspective grounds us in the archetypal psyche, offering rich roots for our astrological art. In this webinar we will explore the fertile possibilities by introducing the four movements–personifying, psychologizing, pathologizing, dehumanizing–of Hillman’s groundbreaking opus Re-Visioning Psychology (1974) and their significance to an archetypal and psychological astrology. In this webinar we will wed ideas to experience and engage in contemplative writing exercises so to explore these soul movements in our charts and lives.

Another Look at Chiron & the Archetypal Wound
5th November 2023 – 15.30-18.00 GMT

Late in his life, Carl Jung noted that, “The decisive question for man is: Is he related to something infinite or not?”

From the vantage point of this question and the backdrop of the infinite, this webinar looks at the mythology and astrology of the centaur Chiron – the Wounded Healer – with fresh eyes. Chiron’s placement in our charts by sign, by house, and by aspect with other planets reveals a specific kind of wounding felt on deeply personal and individual levels. Yet, as a mythic figure, Chiron represents something archetypal in nature. His story is an archetypal story. His wound is an archetypal wound. What is the nature of this archetypal wound?

The first part of this webinar looks at the mythology of Chiron, from his role as a teacher of the Heroes and his famous wounding, to his quest to heal and his final resting place among the stars – all from an archetypal perspective. The second part uses chart examples to explore Chiron’s wound further, and to speculate on why Jung placed such importance on our relationship with the infinite.

When there are two sign rulers: What to do?
12th November 2023 – 15.30-18.00 GMT

Scorpio, Aquarius and Pisces are each dual-ruled signs. How do we describe the energy of planets in these signs to our clients and ourselves? We shall explore how to help ourselves and others to navigate the worlds reflected by these signs, considering the very different dimensions each sign must attend.

Seeing Eye to Eye: the Astrology of Brothers and Sisters
28th January 2024 – 15.30-18.00 GMT

Our siblings can be companions or rivals, mirrors for the best and worst of ourselves. How wonderful to have a sibling as a guide, how terrible to encounter a bully. These first relationships  carry an important imprint for later life, they affect our capacity for distance and closeness, our ability to communicate, to connect and let go. There are often powerful stories to unwind as we get older. The idealized sibling, the troubled brother or sister, or the one struck by some kind of fate, all play a huge role in our future selves. The third house is traditionally associated with siblings, and its “shadow houses”  the second and eighth, speak to the issues of envy and possession, always so prominent in these relationships. Examples from class participants will be welcome.

The Descendant and Partner Choices
11th February 2024 – 15.30-18.00 BST

As a couples therapist my bread and butter is to work out how this often complex cliché ridden pattern of ‘opposites attract‘ affect our relationships. Astrology has helped me many times to get a clearer picture of these patterns and how they play out. In this webinar we will shed light on this fascinating topic by sharing certain rules which makes it easier to define ‘what kind of partner‘ a native will attract.

We will be looking at: the sign on the descendant and its polarity with the ascendant; the house in which the ruler of the descendant is placed; the aspects of the descendant ruler; and planets in the 7th house. All of these have a profound effect on our partner choices and how harmonious or challenging our relationship patterns may play out. As well as the theory, I will present many charts in order to demonstrate how my guide works.

Interpreting the Whole Chart
18th February 2024 – 15.30-18.00 BST

The challenge in reading a chart is to bring the component parts together so that a sense of the whole person begins to form. Each chart contains its unique arrangement of planetary configurations, placements and house rulerships, the whole a map of the individual rendered in symbolic form. As we analyse and then synthesise the material, ideas emerge about what moves and motivates this particular individual, as we work to gain a sense of the flesh-and-blood person behind the archetypal pattern. This seminar will offer practice in reading whole charts, first gathering the information and then weaving it together to arrive at a sense of the chart’s main themes.
